The Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival is held annually in the Manjimup Central Business District, WA. Events include a cherry blossom crowning and a CWA cherry cook competition. There is also a cherry pip spitting competition and the winner will win a trip to Cromwell, New Zealand where they will compete for the title of Australasian Cherry Pip Spitting Champion.
Each year, people assemble at Perth Market City to bid on a box of fresh Australian cherries. The proceeds go towards equipment and services for Princess Margaret Hospital.
Young, NSW, the self‐proclaimed national cherry capital of Australia, will host the 60th annual national cherry festival this year. Events will include a street parade, a carnival, farmer’s market and orchard tours.
The Melbourne Prahran Market will host its inaugural Cherry Pip Spitting Competition to mark the beginning of the Victorian cherry season. Traders from the market will compete for the title of Victorian Cherry Pip Spitting Champion.
The beginning of the cherry season also heralds The Sydney Cherry Auction, held annually at the Sydney Markets, where the first cherries of the season are auctioned. This was the 30th year the auction was held and a total of $58,140 was raised, the proceeds going to Variety, The Children’s Charity. Variety used the proceeds to purchase medical equipment for the Intensive Care Unit at the Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick.
