Eat, Drink and Be Healthy - Tips for Surviving the Silly Season

Posted - Mon, Dec 7th, 2009

Christmas is notorious for excess, with food and alcohol topping the list. But IT IS possible to make it into January without feeling like all your clothes has shrunk in the wash.

My simple tips mean you can enjoy yourself but still feel good over summer

Pace Yourself – Go easy on each course to leave room for the next one, not to mention the next day and so on…

Out of Sight, Out of Mind - Don’t stand near the food. Easy access equals easy picking.

Take your Pick – If you’re doing the rounds to different homes, remember who makes what dish particularly well and make it your focus.

Designated Driver – Do yourself a favour and offer to drive sometime. You sure will be popular.

Think Tall and Thin – Choose tall, thin glasses rather than a short, wide one. We tend focus on the height of the glass, not the width - so our brain tells us the taller glass looks fuller.

A Fresh Approach – No one can resist a platter of fresh, seasonal fruit like bright red, juicy cherries. They’re certainly a favourite in my family. I usually add cherries to salads and use as stuffing for the roast pork. Click here to see my roast pork with cherry stuffing recipe.

The Office Party - Get involved in organising things so that you can ensure there are healthy choices available.

Buffet Etiquette - Visit the buffet once only and dismiss thoughts about getting value for money (overeating is not worth it).
